If creativity is a trait that can be passed along to children then Kristen has to thank her talented Doodle Diva mom, Shirley for passing on those good genes. As a child being raised in Houston, Texas Kristen was exposed to arts and crafts at an early age.

Moving to St. Petersburg with the family when she was six years old Kristen soon called Florida home and became quite happy with the sunny weather and beautiful beaches. While attending Northeast High School she started working part time helping her mom at The Doodle. Upon graduation Kristen enrolled at the University of South Florida and studied studio art. That was a natural choice given her background and love for creating art.

She found that she was happiest with photography, electronic media, sculpture and her pottery classes which led her to a part-time job at You Do the Dishes, a pottery painting playground in Tampa. Through all her years at college, Kristen still managed to put in some hours at Whim So Doodle working with customers, creating samples and teaching kid’s camp in the summer.

After graduating with a BA in Studio Art Kristen became exposed to the world of graphic design when she was given the job of taking over The Doodle’s online operation. It was an exciting discovery since it combined her interest in playing around with computer graphics and her creative abilities. For the past year she has interned at R-Design learning all the complexities of designing websites. Kristen has put her training to good use in helping create and design Whim So Doodle’s website.

Kristen also picked up something else besides a degree at USF, a steady boyfriend, Brian. She and Brian, a marketing supervisor, have been together for three years and have recently adopted a kitten, Rafe together.

Her favorite kind of scrapbooking is collecting! Kristen says, “I have good intentions…”, but when she starts a project she usually ends up cleaning up her scrap space, finding fun things she forgot about and forgetting about what she was supposed to be working on. What she does manage to complete is special projects for other people, she just can’t seem to finish anything for herself. Through classes and her personal experience Kristen has developed a unique photographer’s eye and puts the focus of her layouts or projects is on the photographs she takes. Most of her completed projects hang around her house as imaginative home decor. Even though she is a self admitted homebody, Kristen manages to stay active by going out with friends, shopping, traveling to such favorite places as Hawaii, France, Italy and New York City, working out at the gym and boating in the summer. This gives her plenty of scrap-worthy photos and she manages to get some of them into albums. The title of her current favorite idea books best describes her eclectic style-Scrapbooking for the Urban Divas.
